Taste Of Our Youth

Taste of Our Roots: Youth Cultural Cooking & Food Literacy Program (Ages 15–29)
Taste of Our Roots is a powerful youth empowerment program by DuMonde Helping Hands Foundation, designed to strengthen cultural identity, teach life skills, and reduce food insecurity across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, and the Vancouver Lower Mainland.

Who We Served

Taste of Our Roots is open to youth and young adults ages 15–29, with priority given to individuals facing barriers such as:

·       Newcomers and refugees

·       Youth from racialized and visible minority communities

·       Low-income and working-poor households

·       Youth with limited access to mentorship and employment resources

·       Youth experiencing food insecurity

·       Youth from single-parent families

·       Young adults navigating unemployment and housing instability

Our program welcomes participants of all backgrounds and promotes unity through shared learning and cultural celebration.

How Taste of Our Roots Reduces
Food Insecurity

Taste of Our Roots is a long-term solution to food insecurity because it teaches youth practical skills that reduce dependency and increase independence.

This program helps youth:

·       cook healthy meals at home

·       plan meals for families

·       professional skills for a job ready

·       reduce unnecessary spending

·       prevent food waste

·       improve nutritional habits

·       increase confidence and stability

By empowering youth, we strengthen families and reduce poverty across entire communities.
