David Ayomide Abisoye
-
Youth Ambassador

A Story of Commitment, Service, and Youth Leadership

At DuMonde Helping Hands Foundation, we often speak about impact, service, and community. But every so often, an individual comes along whose actions embody those values so completely that words struggle to keep up. David Ayomide Abisoye (King David) is one of those individuals.

King David is a brilliant High School student and not just a volunteer. He is a constant presence, a dependable force, and a quiet leader whose commitment has strengthened the very backbone of our food security operations. From early morning food pickups to late-day sorting and redistribution, King David has shown every time and time again and what it means to serve with humility, discipline, and heart.

We are now proud to recognize King David as our "Youth Ambassador" of DuMonde Helping Hands Foundation, a role he earned not through Directorate title or request, but through consistent action, reliability, and compassion.

Showing Up, Again and Again

Food security work is not glamorous. It requires early mornings, physical labor, attention to detail, and emotional resilience. It demands showing up when it is inconvenient, when it is cold, when schedules are tight, and when others may step back.

King David showed up anyway.

He has been involved in nearly every stage of our food rescue and redistribution process, including:

  • Picking up food donations from partner grocery stores and food donors

  • Transporting rescued food safely and efficiently

  • Sorting and inspecting food to ensure it is safe, edible, and dignified for recipients

  • Packaging and organizing food for distribution

  • Assisting with on-site food distribution to families in need

His presence has been so consistent that volunteers and staff alike came to rely on him—not because he was asked, but because he made himself available.

King David understands something fundamental: food security is about people, not just food. Every item he sorts, every box he carries, every delivery he helps complete represents a family that will eat that day with dignity.

A Youth Who Leads by Example What makes David’s contribution especially remarkable is his age. David is currently a high school student at Frank Hurt Secondary School, still completing his studies and balancing academic responsibilities. While many young people are still discovering what service means, David has already made it a practice. Despite school commitments, David has consistently volunteered his time—often stepping in during critical moments when help was urgently needed. His reliability has made him an essential part of our weekly operations. He does not seek recognition. He does not ask for praise. He simply does the work. And that, in itself, is leadership. Attention to Detail, Respect for Dignity One of David’s most impactful contributions has been his careful approach to food quality and safety. He understands that families receiving food are not “recipients” of leftovers—they are members of our community who deserve respect. David takes time to: Inspect food carefully Separate items that are no longer safe Ensure only quality, edible food is redistributed Maintain cleanliness and order during sorting This level of care protects not only public health, but also the dignity of the families we serve. It reflects a maturity and sense of responsibility far beyond his years. Always Available, Always Willing There is a phrase often used in volunteer work: “availability is impact.” David embodies this principle fully. Whether it was: A last-minute pickup An unexpected increase in food volume A need for extra hands during distribution A long day that required staying later than planned David made himself available. This reliability has allowed DuMonde Helping Hands Foundation to increase food rescue volumes, respond quickly to partner needs, and ensure families are never turned away due to lack of manpower. Recognition Earned, Not Expected In recognition of his extraordinary dedication and service, DuMonde Helping Hands Foundation awarded David a brand-new phone, a small token of appreciation compared to the magnitude of his contribution. The gift was not just about the phone. It was a statement: We see you. We value you. And your work matters. David received the gift with humility, gratitude, and the same quiet grace that defines his service. From Volunteer to Youth Ambassador Because of his consistency, character, and impact, David was formally nominated for the role of Youth Ambassador with DuMonde Helping Hands Foundation. He passed the nomination process with distinction. As a Youth Ambassador, David now serves as: A representative voice for youth within the Foundation A role model for other young volunteers A bridge between youth, community service, and leadership development In this role, he continues to support food security initiatives while inspiring other young people to step into service with confidence and purpose. An Aspiring Engineer with a Human-Centered Vision David describes himself simply: “My name is David. I am currently a high school student at Frank Hurt Secondary School. I have not yet graduated, as I am still completing my studies. I am an aspiring engineer.” That aspiration is no coincidence. Engineering is about problem-solving, systems, and building solutions—and David already applies these principles in real life. Whether it’s organizing food flow, improving efficiency during sorting, or anticipating what needs to happen next, he approaches challenges with a thoughtful and analytical mindset. We believe David’s future in engineering will be strengthened—not distracted—by his experience in community service. He is learning early that the best solutions are those that serve people. Why David’s Story Matters David Ayo represents the future of community leadership. He shows us that: Youth are not just beneficiaries of programs and they are drivers of impact Leadership does not require a title, only commitment Service builds character, confidence, and purpose When youth are trusted, supported, and empowered, they rise For funders, partners, and supporters, David’s story is proof that investments in youth engagement and volunteer development produce real, measurable impact. Looking Ahead As DuMonde Helping Hands Foundation enters a new year and expands its programs in 2026, David’s role as a Youth Ambassador will continue to grow. We look forward to: Supporting his leadership development Creating mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities Amplifying youth voices in community initiatives Walking alongside him as he pursues his education and future career David’s journey is just beginning—and we are honored to be part of it. A Message of Gratitude David, thank you. Thank you for your time, your energy, your care, and your consistency. Thank you for reminding us that service is powerful at every age, and that leadership begins with showing up. You are not just helping today—you are shaping tomorrow.
